What can we offer?

At Konnekt Outdoors we provide a safe place to explore and learn outdoors through structured programmes and one off activities.

We cater for all children from all types of provision and we can provide sessions suitable for all abilities including experiential learning, enrichment, alternative education, behaviour and reward and other programmes designed with you for neurodiverse and SEND students.

The activities can be for fun with free play elements or with curriculum links and themes schools are working on each term.

We also provide our own in house award called the Roots Award for 7-16yrs which can help structure outdoor learning and bring a sense of achievement upon completion of a Bronze Silver or Gold award, these can also be used as a pre- DofE programme.

What is the Roots Award?

The Roots Award is an outdoor learning programme developed to provide young people with a strong foundation so they can maximise their abilities, knowledge, resilience, social skills, confidence, self-esteem, and reach their full potential.

Each award programme can be delivered over 12 two hour sessions by our highly experience instructors in your school’s outdoor space, at our Outdoor Learning and Activity Centre or can even incorporate outings into the local countryside.

The award can be tailored to meet your school needs which could include school grounds, Learner needs (SEN), or the timetable. This programme will support the young people’s mental well-being, resilience and will build skills that they can utilise in other educational settings.

What is the Roots Award?

Each award offers 12 different headed sessions from First Aid to Bushcraft designed to build and use key skills that will progress throughout the 3 awards.

  • Week 1 Teamwork

  • Week 2 Navigation

  • Week 3 Fire Lighting

  • Week 4 First Aid

  • Week 5 Bushcraft

  • Week 6 Outdoor Wellbeing

  • Week 7 School Action Project

  • Week 8 Local History

  • Week 9 Healthy Living

  • Week 10 Conservation

  • Week 11 Eco Project

  • Week 12 Award Celebration

The elements and activities in the programme are interchangeable to help meet yours and the young peoples needs and the workbooks can be alerted to match your requirements. The workbooks can be electronic or hard copies for each student and certificate is provided at the end.

Why the Roots Award?

Students involved in an outdoor learning project for 2 hours per week over 12 weeks gained an average increase of 6 months for Mental Arithmetic and 2 months for General Maths. They also showed a 20% increase in their attitudes to learning, while the control group decreased by 3% over the same period.

“The difference this work has had is astonishing. Right now Kidz Konnekt are working with our Year 6 children to make sure they are ready for Secondary School, giving them the confidence and skills. It involves a lot of outdoors skills where they get a direct sense of achievement. A key benefit for the pupils has been working with the team from Kidz Konnekt, a local charity.

The school has funding from Sport England to work with the charity to help the children build confidence and key life skills.

“The staff are so good with the children”, says Miss Cooper. ”They come in every day for half a day. We are building an ‘outdoor classroom’ and the children have planted a wooded area and are creating a sensory pathway which is wonderful for all our children but especially those with additional needs”.

- Tammy Cooper, Head Teacher
